Guo Taiming visits the OLED screen factory, in order not to miss the Apple iPhone8 order

Bloomberg today reported that almost all of the facilities used to produce OLED screens come from a Japanese company called Canon Tokki. In order to allow their own screen department to successfully receive orders for potential OLED iPhone screens, Hon Hai Group Chairman Guo Taiming even went to Japan to visit the production line. Since Hon Hai has already acquired Sharp, Guo Taiming’s move is also to become a self-family of Sharp.

However, there is a disadvantage for Hon Hai. Their current OLED production started late, and it is very likely that they need cooperation from other companies, such as Japan Display.

After being acquired by Hon Hai and replacing the top management, the current Sharp President Dai Zhengwu once told the Japanese media that they hope to cooperate with another Japanese screen giant, Japan Display (JDI), in terms of the LED (OLED) panel. In order to break the monopoly of Korean manufacturers: "I hope that we can develop new OLED technology together with Japanese talents in the LCD field and manage them together."

The two Japanese display giants (including Sharp has been acquired by Hon Hai) are strong and strong, and the industry naturally looks forward to the cooperation between the two sides. However, due to time constraints, when Apple introduced the new iPhone in 2017 (iPhone8), its OLED screen orders will probably be entirely arranged by Samsung.
