China's first Da Vinci Surgical Robot International Training Center opened in Shanghai

On February 26th, China's first Da Vinci Surgical Robot International Training Center was opened at Shanghai Changhai Hospital. The founding of the center broke the constraints that Chinese doctors had to go abroad to accept robot training. This will facilitate the promotion and popularization of surgical robots in the country and the training of surgical personnel. Professor Sun Yinghao, the president of the Second Military Medical University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, showed reporters a complex minimally invasive surgery for prostate cancer using a Da Vinci robot. The robot consists of three parts: the surgeon's console, the bedside robotic arm system, and the imaging system. Doctors only need to wear a finger ring in front of the robot operating platform in the corner of the operating room to synchronize the control of the robot's arm. Compared with the human hand, the robot simulation wrist device has 7 degrees of freedom, which is more flexible and accurate than the human hand. It can also automatically filter out tremor and is more stable than human hands. In addition, the imaging technology of DaVinci's surgical robot is more realistic, naked-eye 3D stereo high-definition images, can enlarge the image 10 times. Doctors use the control system to perform surgery as if they are sitting in front of a computer playing video games. The whole process is easy and intuitive. If a traditional laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is performed, the surgeon needs to stand for about 3 hours in front of the operating table. Sun Yinghao introduced that the robotic arm is not only more flexible, more accurate, and more stable than the human hand, but also conducive to separating and dissecting the tissues and parts of the deep and narrow spaces, as if the carving and embroidery are generally fine, reducing the damage to blood vessels and nerves and intraoperatively. Bleeding. Taking prostate cancer radical surgery as an example, the amount of blood loss from surgery is reduced from 200 to 300 ml for traditional laparoscopic surgery to the current 50 to 100 ml. The 3D imaging system allows doctors to easily see what is behind the object. Although the Da Vinci robot has a good surgical effect and is easy to operate, since the introduction of the first Da Vinci surgical robot system in 2006, China has conducted a total of more than 40,000 robotic surgeries covering urology, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in 10 years. Gastrointestinal surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, pediatric surgery, thyroid surgery and other departments nearly 100 kinds of surgical procedures. The amount of this operation is relatively small. The data shows that at present there are 62 robotic surgical systems in China, each with about 5.9 procedures per week. In contrast, the operation volume of a large-scale top-three hospital can reach several hundred a day, and the proportion of robotic surgery is small. The potential and effectiveness of the robotic surgical system have not been fully realized. Most hospital robots have not been fully utilized. “Robot surgery is the most advanced surgical method today and it requires systematic training and rigorous certification before it can be carried out. The previous training had to be carried out outside the country. The long cycle, high cost, and difficulty have severely restricted the application of this cutting-edge technology. Zhang Changchun, president of Changhai Hospital, said that after the opening of the Da Vinci International Training Center for Surgical Robots, it will fill the void of “no training” for robotic surgery in the country and change the inconvenience that Chinese doctors can only go abroad for training. It is expected that the number of training personnel in Changhai Hospital Training Center will reach more than 500 annually.
