Wuhan Institute of Posts and Telecommunications announced on the 4th that the first 560Tb/s ultra-large-capacity WDM and space-division optical transmission system experiments in China can realize 6.75 billion pairs of people (13.5 billion people) on a single fiber. This indicates that China has taken a new step in the research field of "ultra-large capacity, ultra-long-distance, ultra-high-rate" optical communication systems.

In this experiment, a single-mode seven-core fiber with independent intellectual property rights was used as the transmission medium. Different from ordinary fiber, a single-mode seven-core fiber is equivalent to seven ordinary fibers. The person in charge of the Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications said that if the optical fiber information transmission is compared to the highway and the ordinary fiber is a single lane, the single-mode seven-core fiber is equivalent to seven parallel lanes, which can provide 7 times the transmission capacity of ordinary fiber. Through technological and technological breakthroughs, single-mode seven-core fiber solves the crosstalk problem between multi-core fibers, with an isolation of -70dB, which minimizes the interference and impact between "lane" and "lane".

While the transmission medium is being innovated, the system equipment used in this experiment uses 16 single light sources. After the optical multi-carrier generation device, the single-core transmission capacity is 80 Tbit/s, and the total system transmission capacity reaches 560 Tbit/s. According to reports, the "560Tbit/s ultra-large capacity single-mode multi-core optical fiber transmission system" realized by the expert group has been the first in China and has reached the international advanced level.
