Lin Keming (1900 ~ 1999)
Mr. Lin Keming was born in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province in July 1900. He studied in France and graduated from the School of Architecture and Engineering in Lyon in 1926.
After returning to China in 1926, he was responsible for road engineering and urban planning in the Public Works Division of Shantou City. In 1929, he was an adjunct professor of the Provincial Industrial College. In 1930, he was appointed as a consultant for the construction of the Zhongshan Memorial Hall in Guangzhou. In 1932, he founded the Department of Architecture of the University of Logistics, one of the earliest construction engineering departments in China, and served as professor and department head. In 1933, Lin Keming Architects was established. In 1945, he was a professor of architecture at the School of Engineering, Sun Yat-Sen University.
After 1949, Lin Keming was the leader of the Huangpu Building Management Bureau, the Guangzhou Municipal Construction Planning Committee, the Municipal Construction Engineering Bureau, the Municipal Urban Planning Committee, and the Municipal Design Institute. He was responsible for technical leadership. In 1972, he served as deputy dean of the Guangzhou Design Institute. In 1975, he was transferred to the deputy director and chief engineer of the Guangzhou Municipal Construction Committee. Since 1979, he has served as Professor of Architecture at the South China Institute of Technology and Dean of the School of Design and Research.
Lin Keming is a representative of the First, Second and Third National People's Congresses, a member of the Fifth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Political Consultative Conference, and the Vice Chairman of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference. In 1992, he was awarded the Guangzhou Municipal Committee. The title of "Guangzhou Excellent Experts and Scholars" awarded by the Municipal People's Government. In 1990, he was awarded the expert of “Special Government Allowanceâ€. From 1953 to 1978, he served as executive director and vice chairman of the Chinese Architectural Society.
The projects designed or supervised by him mainly include: the original Zhongshan Library (now renamed as Zhongshan Documentary Museum), Guangzhou Zhongshan Memorial Hall (as an engineering consultant), and the Guangzhou Municipal Government Office (now the municipal government office building, the program won the program) The first place in the competition), the Huanghuagang 72 Martyrs Archway, the teaching building of the Teachers College of the University of Qinqin, the Soviet Exhibition Hall (China-Soviet Friendship Building), the Guangdong Science and Technology Museum, the Yangcheng Hotel (now the old building of the Oriental Hotel) and other buildings.
He also has works such as "Introduction to Urban Planning", "Modern Architectural Trends", and "Architectural Design Principles".
Mr. Lin Keming died in Guangzhou in March 1999.
