Avago Technologies today announced the industry's smallest thinnest surface mount (SMT) light-emitting diode (LED) in the industry standard (0603) package size. These low-power LEDs with high-brightness chips are only pencil-sized, and they deliver superior illumination with minimal power consumption. Avago's new ChipLED offers the choice of blue and fluorescent white that are most popular with handset manufacturers. Avago's HSMR-CL25 is blue indium gallium nitride (InGaN) with a dominant wavelength of 473 nm and a luminance of 11.2 to 45 mcd. HSMW-CL25 is a fluorescent white InGaN with a luminance of 28.5-112.5 mcd. All brightness is typical for 5 mA drive current and is packaged in a diffused light wave. Its top-emitting package has a wide viewing angle and is suitable for direct backlighting or optical signal processing applications.
The package is compatible with infrared (IR) reflow soldering, and Avago's high-precision manufacturing technology ensures perfect pick-up for automated manufacturing equipment.
The dedicated leadframe structure of the HSMx-CL25 lead-free series in the Avago ChipLED package effectively transfers the heat from the LED chip and operates over a temperature range of C40°C to +85°C.
