[Back to Us] 25 Years of ICTC's Progress

Hangzhou, West Lake, a radio and television event close at hand.
This year coincided with the 25th anniversary of ICTC. Under the care and guidance of SARFT leadership, domestic and foreign experts, radio and television divisions, network operators, vendors, and representatives from all over the world, ICTC has become one of the most influential seminars in the field of broadcast and television.
Looking back on the years of 25 years, all the way to come, the brilliance.
ICTC was born in 1992 and was initially called the International CATV Technology Conference. Its important feature is to introduce the latest developments in the development of cable television technology at home and abroad.
Time is changing.
In order to better support and promote the development of the broadcasting and TV industry, ICTC has continued to innovate and transform over the past 25 years.
Today, let us review the changes and changes that have been experienced since the ICTC was established.
Have friends come from afar
ICTC is actually an innovative and dynamic “post-90s”.
If you use a few keywords to describe the ICTC, "openness" must be one of them. ICTC is not only a conference, but also a big platform for opening up, innovation and development.
In 1990, there was an upsurge in the construction of urban cable television in the country. However, because of the late start, it was urgent to learn advanced foreign experience and technology.
In this context, ICTC came into being.
The first ICTC introduced international discussion. Experts from the US cable television laboratory, NHK Japan expert group, AT&T experts, etc. introduced the development and management of cable television in the United States and Japan, and shared the planning and design, standards, equipment, and systems of the network in the form of special topics. Indicator testing, new advances in fiber optic technology, and even the operation and maintenance of the situation. In face-to-face communication, learning and discussion, many problems that have plagued radio and television practitioners have been solved.
Since then, Chinese and foreign experts have studied together and become a major feature of the ICTC.
In 1994, Time Warner’s technical director and TCI's expert team were invited to attend the conference, highlighting the construction of the US HFC network. At that time, China was focusing on how to develop a conditional access system and launched a pay-TV service. Both domestic and foreign experts conducted in-depth exchanges.
Some people in the industry proposed to engage in video on demand. In 1995, the ICTC Organizing Committee invited Dr. Jekola, the president of the American Cable Engineering Association, to share with us the development of video on demand in the United States.
In order to understand the progress of optical fiber, ICTC also invited NHK experts from Japan in two consecutive years in 1996 and 1997 to introduce the experimental situation of the fiber-to-the-home project in the Kansai Cultural and Academic Research City.
In the past ten years, Mr. Chris Ramos, an old friend of ICTC, executive vice president of the Cable TV Lab of the United States, attended the conference almost every year and made important speeches on the innovation and development of global cable television.
The world-famous cable TV technology and equipment manufacturers also use the ICTC as a podium for entry into China and send experts to ICTC to report and publish papers.
In order to further enhance the ICTC's international influence, last year, the organizing committee has invited Netflix, Warner, Fox and other Hollywood film and television groups to discuss such topics as media convergence. In addition, ICTC has also specially set up an "International Cable Forum" to allow more European and American cable operators to participate and exchange ideas with domestic counterparts.
Have friends come from afar? ICTC's "internationalization" temperament, such a session of the continuation, pass down.
According to incomplete statistics, so far, there have been at least three to four hundred internationally renowned industry organizations and key manufacturer experts invited to attend the ICTC conference, with partners all over the world.
2 times renamed, ICTC keeps giving new content
The "Northern Exhibition South Conference" was hailed as two lights guiding the development of China's cable television.
Looking forward to the ICTC's growth history, the development of China's cable TV has become clearer.
In 2003, the pilot of digital cable television conversion started. In order to promote the national digital transformation process, in 2004, Wang Xiaojie, then the director of the Science and Technology Department of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, personally presided over the ICTC large-scale forum, introduced the experience of the entire forerunners in Qingdao, Foshan, Taiyuan and other places, and effectively promoted digital television. National development.
Feeling in the development of cable digital TV and the rapid development of network technology, ICTC is also innovating and enriching the content of the conference.
In 2008, ICTC officially changed its name to "International Coverage and Transmission Conference". The conference expanded its content from cable television to transmission and coverage, and extended from technology to operation management. In addition to the high-profile theme reports and technical papers, the conference also closely integrated with industry hotspots and launched a number of special forums such as “CMMB”, “BOSS” and “Operation Management”.
As telecom operators vigorously promote IPTV services and OTT TV ecology gradually takes up market share, cable operators face more competition and challenges.
The key issue of ICTC2012 is to compete with IPTV and OTT in the face of cable TV, and discuss the future development plan. On the day of the opening ceremony, Naruhito China Sales General Manager Zhang Juntao delivered a keynote speech titled “Hold OTT Opportunity and Promote Industry Innovation”, and Liu Ke, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Radio & TV Solutions, Ministry of Home Market, Hangzhou Huasan Communications Technology Co., Ltd. The topic of “How to Build a Radio and TV IP Bearer Network to Support OTT TV” was shared with participants.
In addition, the “Qiangtang Talks - China Digital TV and OTT Industry Summit Forum” co-sponsored by Hua Digital Media and other agencies was launched during the ICTC. The experts and experts discussed the policy trends, business models, business applications, and technology trends of IPTV, Internet TV, and OTT in order to provide more reference for the sustainable development of China's digital TV industry.
Under the current trend of convergence between the traditional broadcast media and emerging media, the ICTC has once again transformed and upgraded.
Since 2015, ICTC has officially changed its name to "International Conference on Technology Convergence." In addition to the continuation of the forum's acclaimed forum topics, the organizing committee has conducted in-depth segmentation and analysis of hot issues in the industry, combined with the "wisdom" of this hot spot, organized the "Wisdom Radio and TV Forum"; to strengthen copyright under media convergence Protected and arranged the "Integrated Media Format Innovation and Copyright Protection Forum"; in conjunction with the universal "Internet +" wave of thought, the "TV2T Technology Forum" was organized; in 2017, the first TVOS Application Innovation Contest final was moved to the conference site...

In the face of change, the ICTC has never refused to take the initiative. When the dispute comes, the ICTC hopes to find out the answer through fierce thoughts. Under pressure, the ICTC organizes technical discussions in a timely manner and actively seeks effective countermeasures to solve the problem. Problems that cannot be avoided.
