10W CV/CC single-sided USB charger

Introduction

This design example report describes a 10 W CV / CC single-sided USB charger using the InnoSwitch-CH INN2023K. It features built-in high efficiency synchronous rectification and single-sided PCB. In addition, it has all the advantages of secondary side control and the simplicity of primary side adjustment. <10 mW no-load input power and ±3% CV, ±5% CC regulation, is not sensitive to transformer changes, and its transient response is independent of load timing. This design is suitable for mobile phones / USB chargers.

Input EMI filter

Fuse F1 provides protection against catastrophic failure of the primary side components.

Due to the low surge current rating of rectifier bridge BR1 and the relatively high value of bulk storage capacitors C1 and C2 and therefore low impedance, a surge limiting thermistor (RT1) is necessary.

Due to the limited space, especially from the PCB to the housing, the physical miniature bridge rectifier BR1 was chosen.

Capacitors C1 and C2 provide filtering of the rectified AC input and form a π(π) filter with L1 and L2 to attenuate differential mode EMI. A low value Y capacitor (C8) reduces common mode EMI.

InnoSwitch-CH IC Primary

One side of the primary side of the transformer is connected to the rectified DC bus and the other side is connected to the integrated 650 V power MOSFET in the InnoSwitch-CH IC (U1).

The low cost RCD clamp circuit consisting of D1, R1, R2 and C3 limits the peak drain voltage due to the effects of the transformer and output trace inductance.

The IC is self-starting and uses the internal high voltage current source to charge the BPP pin capacitor (C4) when the AC is first used. During normal operation, the primary side block is powered by the auxiliary winding on the transformer. The output is configured as a flyback winding, rectified and filtered (D2 and C5) and fed into the BPP pin through a current limiting resistor R3.

InnoSwitch-CH IC Secondary

The secondary side of the InnoSwitch-CH provides an output voltage that senses and drives the output to a MOSFET that provides synchronous rectification.

The secondary side of the transformer is rectified by Q1 and filtered by C10. High frequency ringing occurs during switching transients, otherwise high voltages are generated across Q1 and radiated EMI is reduced by buffer components R5 and C9.

The secondary side of the IC is self-powered by the forward voltage or output voltage of the secondary winding. During CV operation, the output voltage powers the device and feeds the VO pin.

Installation Steps

1 Fitting the steel structure: fitting it on the wall firmly

2 Attach the U-Tile frame to the structure firmly

3Lock the frame on the structure by screws

4Hanging the upper right hooks of the cabinet to the card slot of the right U-tile Frame.

Buckle the left position pins of the cabinet to the location holes of the left side of the U-tile frame

6 Aim at the screw holes for the front service installation, fitting 6 screws on the U-tile frame through the cabinet from the front.

(This is a procedure of front service, this cabinet support also available for back maintenance)

7 Then finished installation for one cabinet. The same as the next cabinet.

8 Cable Connection.

Connect the male-plug (with cable) of the next cabinet to the female-plug of its upper cabinet firmly.

9 Using the same mode to finish the rest connection (five-pins cable), then the installation work for a complete LED display is finished.

After-sale maintenance

1 The cabinet support single trip maintenance. If there any bad LED lamp or damage on single strip, you can remove the strip separately without take out the cabinet and control box.

2, Cabinet support front & back installation and maintenance. If there any problem on single cabinet, you can remove the cabinet from the front & back of the screen.

3 ,If there damages on the control box, you need remove the cabinet and open the cover of the power supply box to do repair & exchange work.
