Why does Oculus run HTC Vive and run "home" content?

At present, there are two major VR helmets based on the Windows PC platform, namely Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Because the current VR content is not much, the two VR helmet platforms will remain open to each other. For example, users of HTC Vive can experience Oculus's content with a third-party application called Revive. Users of Oculus Rift can access SteamVR to experience some compatible content.

However, the harmony between Oculus Rift and HTC Vive seems to be broken. According to foreign media reports, Oculus has recently updated and upgraded the "platform integrity check" program. This will mean that users of HTC Vive can no longer use Revive to experience Oculus's content, because the upgraded system will directly check if the hardware is an Oculus Rift platform. If it is not Oculus Rift, the system will refuse to run the corresponding content.

In response, Oculus said that the update is not aimed at HTC Vive, just to prevent pirated helmets. This statement can give full marks, but given that the number of users who currently purchase VR devices is still small, this "closed" approach seems difficult to win. After all, Steam VR is still open to both parties. "It's just that developers don't have to support both sides." However, on another level, Oculus opened up a tight integration of hard and soft precedents, which may bring another picture, just like the current host market.
