Q: It is said that SCiB can withstand low temperatures. Please tell us about this.

A: I would like to introduce the low temperature performance of SCiB from the aspects of output and input. First, in terms of output, the discharge capacity of SCiB at low temperatures is less deteriorated. When the ambient temperature drops to around -10 °C, the discharge capacity of an ordinary lithium-ion battery will drop significantly, while the SCiB can remain above 95%.

Secondly, the input side, the ordinary lithium-ion battery will damage the battery when it is quickly charged at low temperature. Even if the SCiB is repeatedly charged at a low temperature, it will not damage the battery and will not lose the performance of the battery.

The low temperature characteristics of SCiB batteries are important for HEVs and EVs. Since the HEV or EV equipped with a normal lithium ion battery is driven in a cold area, the discharge capacity is drastically reduced, and in order to protect the battery from damage, the regeneration function is restricted.
