Looking at the first year: smart lighting, internet of things, mobile phone camera, touch

At the beginning of 2014, the word suddenly popping out of the head is “Year of the Year”, and it is also a first year. I remember that a predecessor wrote an article about what is the first year. What I read from it is the hope and expectation in the crisis. The first year we will talk about here, we need to understand the opportunities and challenges in the first year.

At the "2014 Industry and Technology Outlook Media Seminar" hosted by EEVIA, representatives from Freescale, Fujitsu, Marvell and JiChuang North are cutting-edge technologies for IoT, mobile phone cameras and ISP chips, LED intelligent lighting and touch control. Development and future trends share their perspectives and deliver leading technology concepts and the latest technological achievements.

2014--The first year of the explosion of intelligent LED lighting

In recent years, the LED lighting industry has benefited from the continuous promotion of policies and the continuous maturity of technology, coupled with the reduction of costs, and its application fields have gradually penetrated into various channels. The LED lighting market is becoming a competition place for major manufacturers. Marvell, the industry's leading semiconductor company, is very optimistic about the LED lighting market. In recent years, it has also actively promoted the LED driver field, especially in the intelligent LED lighting.

Lance Zheng, director of technical sales at Marvell's Green Products Division, said that in 2014 everyone said that it was the first year of smart lighting explosion. We believe that the smart lighting market in 2014 will be around 10 million units, plus various bulbs. Commercial lighting, all with wireless control. Intelligent lighting will grow explosively in the next three to four years or four to five years, and it may reach the scale of 100 million units, and the price will drop from 10 dollars to nearly 5 dollars. There is no doubt that cost reduction is the biggest driving force.

What is the technology in smart wireless lighting? The first is LED driver, the other is wireless control.

There are many companies that do LED-driven, and at least 50 chip companies in the mainland are doing it, but the intellectual property and digital control are relatively weak. Marvell has the industry's most advanced mature digital-analog hybrid technology to help optimize the performance price of the LED lighting industry. Marvell put the digital control center inside the LED driver, and made a very special architecture, and can achieve additional high efficiency, high PF value, and most importantly, a data interface.

Wireless control in LED intelligent lighting is also a very important part. In recent years, in LED intelligent lighting, many wireless technologies, such as WiFi, Bluetooth and ZigBee, have entered the field of LED intelligent lighting.

Lance Zheng compares several standards. WIFI is put into a light bulb in terms of cost, size, power consumption and performance. The pressure is very high. The cost of ZigBee will be much lower than that of WIFI. The limitation of Bluetooth is that the maximum number of supported nodes is only 8. If there are more than 8 nodes, we must think of other methods. The average number of household lights in the United States is about 20. The same Bluetooth chip cost is also higher than the ZigBee chip. And ZigBee technology in the LED intelligent lighting market, more than 50% market share. He believes that the trend of technology unification to ZigBee will become more apparent next. If the LED driver, ZigBee, and WIFI are integrated in the smart LED light, the home gateway can be used to control the home lighting in the cloud. Compared with the domestic LED driver chip company, Marvell has stronger integration and anti-interference ability in the chip design RF and driver IC.

The first year of the Internet of Things? -- The ubiquitous Internet of Things

The Internet of Things is one of the hottest concepts. We have been able to experience the smart home startup Nest, which produces smart thermostats and smoke alarms, from Google’s $3.2 billion price. Now, the wave of the Internet of Things is sweeping the entire electronics industry chain, with typical applications in the fields of building automation, logistics industry, medical health, industrial automation, smart grid, smart city, smart security, smart home, etc. The Internet of Things is quietly changing our lives. As a semiconductor giant, Freescale is also very concerned about the application of the Internet of Things. Wang Wei, Marketing and Business Development Manager of Asia Pacific, Freescale Microcontroller Division, shared Freescale's Java-based IoT development platform.

Wang Wei said that for Freescale, the so-called Internet of Things is not exactly the original M2M. Rather, the concept is promoted to the interconnection of Machine and various facilities, the interconnection of Machine and the environment, the interconnection of Machine and the human body, etc.; it is the extension and extension of the user terminal to any item and item for information exchange and communication. A generic network concept is a system-level convergence. The current Internet of Things has integrated sensing, transmission and computing functions, and is a highly integrated and integrated application of next-generation information technology.

In this IoT system architecture, there are still many problems and challenges. For example, most of the devices in edge nodes, gateways, and system architectures use different technologies, tools, and development environments. They have different requirements and resources for network interconnection security, and even programming languages are different. In a typical network architecture, the challenge of the gateway should be the most huge, because the node-to-gateway connection is various, there are Bluetooth, Zigbee, wifi in the smart home, ISA100, WirelessHART, EtherCAT may be used in industrial applications. , ModBus, Ethernet and many other interconnection technologies, from the gateway to the cloud, there are currently a variety of communication technologies such as Ethernet / fiber, Weightless, 802.11ah, cellular communications, satellite.

The absence of a unified interconnection standard is an important obstacle to the development of the Internet of Things. Therefore, in Freescale's view, how to make a platform for so many standards to coexist is the key to the problem. Based on the above situation, Freescale and Oracle have launched a platform-based "Integrated Box One Box" IoT solution. The platform can be used by Java engineers for application development, whether it is used in edge nodes, gateways or in the cloud. Ultimately, it is guaranteed that developers can do hot swap work based on a Linux operating system. The security issues of the networking industry and the conversion issues between various protocols have also been well resolved.

Freescale's extensive product portfolio covers the entire chain from IoT nodes to the cloud, providing the industry's most scalable and ultra-low-power KineTIs microcontroller family, providing a real-time, highly integrated Vybrid controller family. The i.MX application processor family with multi-core scalability and the QorlQ processor family based on the Layerscape architecture are enough to ensure customers have a variety of product choices.

Wang Wei also emphasized that the strategic cooperation with Oracle provides security and ease of use for the gateway. Freescale-based integrated gateways enable network communication interoperability and standard coexistence. Through this open platform, users can choose different hardware according to the needs of the actual application, and the software level can also be tailored. Application providers are more likely to enter the embedded end, and can develop applications for the needs of customers. "It's as simple as developing an app on a mobile OS platform." Freescale's unified development platform has many advantages. It is a balanced Internet of Things system. It is an open platform that combines different technologies and is suitable for many types of customers. It is a milestone for accelerating the innovation of the Internet of Things.
