Linux system: Linux system is a source code open operating system, there are many versions of the current popular. However, it has not received wider support.
Since Linux entered the mobile terminal operating system for more than a year, it has attracted more and more terminal manufacturers and operators to its attention with its open source code advantages, including well-known manufacturers such as Motorola and NTT DoCoMo. Linux-based phones that have been developed include Motorola's A760, A768, CEC's e2800, and Samsung's i519. At the "LinuxWorld Expo/Tokyo 2004" expo held at the BIG SIGHT Exhibition Hall in Tokyo, Japan in June 2004, NEC, a major mobile phone manufacturer in Japan, demonstrated its mobile phone using the Linux operating system. China’s Datang Telecom also announced in July that it will use Linux as its TD-SCDMA 3G mobile operating system.
Linux is a latecomer to other operating systems, but Linux has the advantage that two other operating systems cannot match. First, Linux has open source code that can significantly reduce costs. Second, it not only meets the requirements of mobile phone manufacturers to develop their own Linux mobile operating systems according to actual conditions, but also attracts many software developers to develop content application software and enriches third-party applications.
However, the Linux operating system has its inherent disadvantages: it is difficult to get started, there are few engineers who are familiar with its development environment, and the integrated development environment is poor; because of the undisclosed source code of Microsoft's PC operating systems, the connectivity between Linux-based products and PCs is poor. Although there are a large number of companies currently engaged in the development of the Linux operating system, there are very few companies that have strong development strength, and these companies are developing independently of each other, and it is difficult to achieve greater technological breakthroughs.
Although Linux has unique advantages in technology and market, it is still unable to compete with Symbian at present. It is no easy task to gain a firm foothold and grab market share in the increasingly competitive mobile phone market.
