On March 17, "China Voice" broadcasted an exclusive interview with Zhang Guobao, director of the National Energy Administration.

Reporter: We know that China's power transmission and transformation equipment manufacturing industry has gone through the roads of the former Soviet Union and Japan for 15 to 20 years in just four years. It has also achieved a comprehensive transcendence. How do you think we are short? Realized this breakthrough and leap in a short period of 4 years?

Zhang Guobao: There are many factors. First of all, China's land and resources, it has market demand, if there is no such market demand, then there is no support. For example, Japan does not have this demand. Although Japan is divided into several states, no state has energy. It does not have this demand, and Japan has a relatively small land area.
Second, China has the superiority of doing socialism to concentrate on major events. We have concentrated the power of the whole country. In the past, China has this tradition, and the research and development of two bombs and one star has concentrated the strength of the whole country. I think China has this system that will affect the research and development of major equipment. Moreover, China has the support of engineering. In the 1980s, I also managed major equipment. At that time, open-pit mining equipment was made. The user said that I don't want it, I am willing to buy a foreign one. However, the power transmission and transformation equipment relies on the needs of major national construction projects, the Three Gorges Project, the Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba projects, and the West-East Power Transmission Project, which closely combines the development of equipment and engineering needs. I think this is a major equipment. An important factor in success.

Reporter: You just mentioned that China has a broad market demand, like the leap-forward development of power transmission and transformation, what impact will it have on China's civilian power supply and industrial power supply?

Zhang Guobao: The power demand in some economically developed areas but lacking high-quality energy areas has been greatly alleviated. In the past few years, due to the relatively rapid development, especially in some coastal areas, the development has been relatively fast, and reports of power cuts and power shortages have often been heard. However, through the allocation of resources, especially the large-scale power construction in recent years, this problem has at least eased, and it can even be said that the phenomenon of power cuts in the first two years will not occur.
Reporter: So the breakthrough in China's power transmission and transformation equipment manufacturing industry and power equipment manufacturing industry shows what kind of level of China's power equipment is in the world?

Zhang Guobao: I think China's current power transmission and transformation technology is world-class, and even China's transmission network is more advanced than the United States. This is not to say that the science and technology of the United States is not as good as China, and their science and technology are generally much stronger than China. Because the development of power transmission and distribution lines in the United States is much earlier than in China, it has already existed since the beginning of the 20th century and will gradually develop in the future. At that time it emphasized freedom, the voltage level was very confusing, there were many voltage levels, and the same route did not have a clear network concept.
For example, China is a high-end connection, high-voltage connection, it may be high voltage, low voltage, so the emergence of the US and Canada power outage accident is not accidental. For this, the United States has visited China in recent years, and their senior officials have acknowledged this. I said that this statement is not self-respecting, saying that we are stronger than the United States, mainly in the course of historical development, China has a late-comer advantage, and the transmission and transformation lines have developed in the United States and can adopt the most advanced technology of the time.

Reporter: Do you think that China's rapid development of power transmission and transformation equipment has important implications for the independent innovation and localization of China's energy equipment manufacturing industry?

Zhang Guobao: Through the research and development of higher voltage levels, China's mechanical design and manufacturing level has been greatly improved, reaching the international advanced level even in some fields, such as large-scale polysilicon components, including high-end transformers. It is the exchange of 1000 kV or the DC of ±800 kV. It has not been done in the world. China has not done it. China has made such complicated power transmission and transformation equipment in the world for the first time.
