According to Wang Xiaoshan, the first author of the paper, “special materials†refer to the vertical heterostructure of Sn0.5W0.5S2/SnS2 prepared by a one-step liquid phase synthesis method, which was developed by Academician Huang Wei and Professor Huang Xiao from Nanjing University of Technology. The results of cooperation with Professor Wang Qiang's research group of the School of Molecular Engineering are the first in the world. Gas sensors based on this vertical heterogeneous structure are very important for environmental monitoring and non-invasive diagnosis of diseases based on respiratory analysis. Breath analysis provides a more effective and convenient method for the early diagnosis of some diseases (such as diabetes, lung cancer). Clinical data shows that the concentration of acetone exhaled by diabetic patients exceeds 1.8 ppm, while that of healthy people is only 0.3-0.9 ppm. In the past, chemical sensors based on metal oxides/sulfides have been used to detect acetone, but usually require very high operating temperatures (usually ≥150°C) to obtain good sensitivity and selectivity. However, there are few liquid phase synthesis methods such as hydrothermal method and sol method, and the research is even rarer.
