2017 VR Headset Sales: PSVR 1.7 Million, Rift 700,000, Vive 500,000, Microsoft 300,000

Jibang Technology stated that in 2017 global VR equipment shipments reached 3.7 million units. In terms of shipments, Sony ranked first, Oculus Rift second, and htc vive ranked third. As of 2018, Jibang Technology expects the global shipment of VR devices will increase to 5 million units.

Jason Tsai, an analyst at Chibang Technology, said: "Because of the strong sales of PS4 and the support of third-party developers, Sony psvr recorded a record 1.7 million shipments in 2017, which accounted for the largest share of the market." Jibang Technology pointed out that Oculus Rift and htc vive shipments are 700,000 units and 500,000 units respectively. In addition, Windows Mixed Reality launched by Microsoft and its partners (Lenovo, Acer, Dell, and others) has shipped about 300,000 units in 2017.

As of 2018, Jibang Technology expects that with the abundant resources of the Sony game console industry, psvr shipments will reach 2 million units; Oculus and HTC will bring new models to the market and believe that this will enable shipments. Increased to 1 million units and 600,000 units.

Jason Tsai pointed out that the demand for VR equipment in 2016 mainly came from the novelty of technology, while the growth of VR equipment shipments slowed down in 2017. For now, the business sector needs specialized customization, while the consumer market is focused on gaming and entertainment. However, the lack of VR game content has become one of the biggest obstacles to the development of the VR market.

This obstacle has led VR vendors to adjust their business goals for 2018. Jason Tsai pointed out that in the face of slowing market growth, VR equipment manufacturers are turning their attention to VR all-in-one machines, hoping to accelerate market growth and stimulate consumer demand. The VR integrated machine is mainly used for consumer-oriented social media, audio/video and internet services.

The VR integrated machine can meet the needs of ordinary consumers, but consumer acceptance of related products will be the key to market growth. In addition, the development of VR all-in-one machines is facing potential technical challenges, including additional components such as chips, optimizing outbound tracking, improving endurance and thermal design. Jibang Technology believes that the VR all-in-one will be the focus of the market in 2018, but the overall VR market will still be in the early stages of development, and there will be no significant growth in shipments by 2020.
