TE Circuit Protection announced the launch of its newest members can reflow thermal protection (RTP) device family RTP 200R060SA device, the RTP series is a typical thermal fuse is more convenient, cost-effective alternative. RTP devices help prevent thermal runaway damage caused by damage and failure of various FETs, capacitors, integrated circuits, resistors, and other power components.

Compared to the original RTP device variant , the new RTP200R060SA device offers a lower series resistance of only 0.6 milliohms (typical) and high voltage capability (32VDC) and high current up to 200A at 16VDC DC interrupt rating. These features make it suitable for a variety of automotive applications such as HVAC, ABS, power steering, DC-DC converters, and PTC heaters. The device also helps protect power components in IT servers, communications power supplies, LED lighting systems and electronics.

Unlike radial lead thermal fuses that must be installed after reflow soldering, RTP devices allow the use of standard surface mount manufacturing methods, eliminating the need for special assembly procedures and associated costs. The 200°C open-circuit temperature of the RTP device prevents various false activations, especially in automotive environments where there is a need to “never trip” for temperatures of 175 °C.

In order to enable it to be disconnected at 200 ° C in the actual application site, the RTP device uses a one-time electronic activation program to make it thermally sensitive. It can withstand 3 lead-free solder reflow steps (up to 260 ° C) without breaking before activation. Activation can be implemented in the system test or in the actual application site.

"From a manufacturing efficiency point of view, surface mount RTP devices offer significant advantages over radial lead thermal fuses," said Jason Zhao, senior product manager. "Thermal fuses may not be suitable for harsh environments. In contrast, the RTP device resists shock, vibration, temperature cycling and wet environments, and has been tested to meet or exceed some of the most stringent automotive AECQ environmental and life testing requirements."

This RTP device is lead-free and halogen-free, RoHS compliant and supports conformal coatings.

Ethernet Slip Ring

Ethernet Slip Ring is a device that allows Ethernet signals to be transmitted through a rotating assembly. This device is typically used in applications where it is not possible or practical to run Ethernet cables, such as in an application where the cables would have to travel through a hazardous area. It converts the regular Ethernet signals into rotary signals, which are then transmitted through the rotating assembly.

There is a growing trend in the industry for Ethernet slip rings. Ethernet slip rings are currently being used to interconnect computer networks. A slip ring is a transmission device that uses a counter-rotating encircling belt to transfer power and data between two or more devices.
