Toshiba (Toshiba) will expand its power control chip production capacity as it sees increased demand for vehicles. It plans to increase the silicon (Si) power control chip production capacity by 20% over the current period (by the end of March 2018) as a next generation. The product's silicon carbide (SiC) power control chip production capacity is planned to expand significantly to the current five-fold. The power supply control chip is regarded as a stable market, and the future demand for vehicles such as electric vehicles (EVs) is expected.
According to reports, after Toshiba sells the memory business (TMC), the power control chip will become the core business of the Toshiba Semiconductor Division. In 2016, Toshiba’s semiconductor-free semiconductor business revenue was 341.7 billion yen, including power control chip revenue of approximately 90 billion yen. Toshiba plans to increase semiconductor-free semiconductor revenues to 440 billion yen in 2019, and its sales profit margin (ROS) will increase to 7% from 3% in 2016.
After Toshiba’s Toshiba Memory (TMC), a semiconductor business subsidiary that sells memory as the main spindle, semiconductors other than memories such as LSI, analog IC, and power control chip will remain in Toshiba, and Toshiba will use memory outside of July this year. The semiconductor division was spun off and established "Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (TDSC)".
